As is tradition, Shenandoah University is proudly displaying pink and green across campus. There is no doubt that on campus and in the Shenandoah Valley — It’s Bloom Time! Attend events at SU’s very own Apple Blossom celebration happening right here on campus!
Winchester has celebrated Apple Blossom since 1924 and — except for the years during World War II and in 2020 during the COVID pandemic when it was not held — each year we look forward to the celebration of the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival! We’re so excited that The Bloom is back in 2021!

The event will be a fun run/walk, 5K around the Winchester campus. All SU students, faculty, and staff with a green pass & SU ID card must register for the race. Registration will begin at 9 am.
Club Carnival

The Sting is hosting an outdoor Club Carnival in and around Sarah’s Glen. Enjoy free games, prizes, and food! Games include trash can pong, a dunk tank, and a mechanical bull! Grab free food at a cookout with the Sport Business Association and take home a unique drawing from a caricature artist. Doors in Bloom – Pink & Green Decorating Contest
Monday, April 26 – Thursday, April 29
Ready to get in the Apple Blossom spirit?! Get out the pink & green and decorate the door of your room, your office, your cubicle wall, or even your door at home for our ShenFlex and commuter students! Submit the Doors in Bloom form by noon on Thursday, April 29 to enter the contest. For virtual entries, judging will take place on Thursday, April 29 at 3 p.m. For main campus rooms and offices, judging will take place in person on Thursday, April 29 starting at 4 p.m. $150, $75, and $50 prizes will be awarded to the top 3 student doors and wine flight tickets for James Charles Winery will be awarded to the top 3 faculty/staff doors. Judging criteria includes use of color, use of space, use of creative material, and overall impression. Bonus points for incorporating the 2021 theme: “Back in Bloom”. Kick off Apple Blossom weekend at Blossom Bash on the HLSB Lawn! Spend some time with animals of Heavenly Heart Petting Zoo, including Jojo the unicorn! Cool off with Mattie’s Soft Serve and listen to DJ Georgie drop some blooming beats in Sarah’s Glen. Movie Night: Godzilla vs. Kong

Kick back, relax and watch Godzilla vs. Kong! Transportation, special Apple Blossom masks, and concessions will be provided. Apple Blossom Fun Run/Walk
Saturday, May 1, 10:00 am | Sarah’s Glen
This will be a 2-mile run/walk around Shenandoah University’s Winchester campus that will start at the tent in Sarah’s Glen. On-site registration begins at 9 a.m. on the day of the race. The first 75 adults and 25 children to register in advance (and complete the run/walk) will receive a free T-shirt to commemorate the event. Pre-register using the Fun Run Registration Form by 5 p.m. Friday, April 30, to be eligible for a T-shirt (while supplies last). All Shenandoah University students, faculty and staff and their families are welcome to participate. We would also like to invite the vaccine clinic volunteers who have been vaccinated, along with their families, to join us. Rock the Bloom

Head to Sarah’s Glen for Rock the Bloom to enjoy tasty treats like pink & green slushies, funnel cakes, and cotton candy. Test your skills at axe-throwing and rock-climbing. Listen to music from DJ Georgie while you play fun carnival games. Apple Blossom t-shirts will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to 50 students at 1 pm, 30 students at 1:30 pm, and 30 students at 2 pm. Battle of the Bands

The Swarm Battle of the Bands is a showcase of work created and produced by Shenandoah University students across all majors, genres, and disciplines! Watch performances from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the field behind Shingleton. Contestants will compete in a talent show format, with one act ultimately winning the grand prize of free studio time with a producer of the act’s choice. A panel of judges made up of faculty and students will give constructive feedback after every performance. Alpha Psi Omega Lip Sync for Your Life

This annual fundraiser, Lipsync for Your Life takes place on Saturday, May 1 at 8 p.m. at Shentel Stadium. This event is a drag performance/competition for SU students that honors Ira Harris, a graduate of Shenandoah’s musical theatre program who passed away at a young age. This scholarship was created in memory of Ira and helps make the joy of an arts education possible by providing financial assistance to a Shenandoah Conservatory Musical Theatre student. Shenandoah Lights Up the Night Fireworks Display

As a member of the university community, we invite you to view the fireworks on campus or around town with family and friends, all while adhering to the CDC’s guidelines regarding mask usage and social distancing.Because the fireworks will be set off in the parking lot of Ohrstrom-Bryant Theatre, we ask that you do not sit on or near the OBT lawn or parking lot. Good viewing spots on campus include Sarah’s Glen, the armory parking lot, the D Lot outside the Brandt Student Center, and the Brandt Student Center parking garage, although any spot on campus will offer a great view of the fireworks unless signage indicates otherwise. Please bring your SU student, faculty or staff ID with you.
