MPRT Program Helps Record Tomaro’s New Jazz Album with Grammy Award-winning Recording Engineer

Director and Associate Professor, Music Production & Recording Technology Golder O’Neill ’92, M.M.E., along with Chris Fenton ’19 (Bachelor of Music in Music Production & Recording Technology), Alex Daughtrey ’22 (Bachelor of Music in Music Production & Recording Technology), Skylar Degroot ’22, (Bachelor of Music in Music Production & Recording Technology), recently recorded Mike Tomaro’s new album with Grammy Award-winning recording engineer Jay Dudt.

“If you have played in a Big Band you have probably played some of Mike Tomaro’s music,” said O’Neill. “He is a talented arranger and musician!”

The recording was captured in Shenandoah University’s Ruebush Studios in Ruebush Hall and featured Auxiliary Adjunct Associate Professor of Jazz and Trumpet Craig Fraedrich, M.M., and Director of Jazz Studies and Trombone Artist-in-Residence Matt Niess, D.M.A. The band consisted of 19 top jazz musicians from the Washington, D.C., and Pittsburgh areas. Ten compositions were all recorded before an impending snow storm during a weekend in January.
