May 2022 Class Notes

On April 24, 2022, Ronn McFarlane (C ’75) performed at the Mainstay in Rock Hall, Maryland.

Thomas WilkinsOn May 7, 2022, Thomas Wilkins (C ’78) was presented an honorary doctorate from Boston Conservatory at Berklee’s commencement ceremony. Wilkins also delivered commencement remarks to the conservatory’s class of 2022 during the ceremony. (Pictured to the right.)

Lisa Bellamy (AS ’91), a Gospel/Jazz singer/songwriter, released a new single, “In This House,” in January 2022.

On April 1, 2022, Matt Conner (C ’97) and his husband, Stephen Gregory Smith, performed their original songs at the The Bernard/Ebb Songwriting Awards Concert, which celebrated musicians from the Washington, D.C. area.

On April 26, 2022, Robert Marple (AS ’01) was named the 2021-22 Loudoun County Public School Principal of the Year.

Assistant Professor of Music Therapy Bronwen Landless (C ’04, C ’13), Ph.D., MT-BC, facilitated a continuing education seminar, “Creative Ways to Incorporate Music in the Therapeutic Process,” for licensed professional counselors, licensed clinical social workers and other care professionals working with people experiencing mental illness in a variety of mental health settings.

Kyle Weary ’05, ’08Kyle Weary (C ’05, C ’08) earned his Doctorate degree in music education from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. His dissertation was titled, “Skills Sequencing in Music Literacy Instruction: A National Survey of the Pedagogy Practices of Secondary Choral Directors.” In April 2022, Kyle also presented on teaching music literacy to choral singers at the Pennsylvania State Music Educators Association Conference. Natasha Davis (C ’07) was appointed the special assistant to the president for strategic planning and compliance for Houghton College in Houghton, New York.

Hisham Al-Aali (B ’11) was featured in Arab News’ article, “Who’s Who: Hisham Al-Aali, VP of HR and shared services at Nana”.

Brain Craft (C ’12) is the content marketing manager for CHAUVET Professional.

Christine McNeal Toole (C ’14) was cast in the lead role of Mary Poppins for Nashville Repertory Theatre’s production of the Broadway musical “Mary Poppins” that ran from Thursday, April 28, through Sunday, May 8, 2022, at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

On March 24, 2022, Amber McConnell Harrelson (N ’16) gave birth to her daughter, Amelia Jane Harrelson.

Gwenn Leatherman ’16, ’20On July, 5, 2022, Gwenn Leatherman (N ’16, N ’20) opened her own primary care practice, Leatherman Healthcare, in Hagerstown, Maryland. (Pictured to the right.)

Jordan Leigh McCaskill (C ’17) made her off-Broadway debut as the female swing in “Exception to the Rule” by Dave Harris with the Roundabout Theatre Company in New York City.

Zachary Bigelow (C ’18) was cast in the national tour of “Anastasia: The Musical.” Bigelow will start as a swing for the tour and eventually perform in the ensemble and cover the role of Dmitry.

Annie Griggs (C ’19) was named a Fulbright Scholar for the 2022-23 academic year.

Katie Carper Lamb (EL ’19), Quarles Elementary School third-grade teacher, was named Winchester Public Schools teacher of the year for the 2021-22 school year.

Kayla O’Connell (AS ’19, HP ’20) is a resident athletic trainer for UF Health in Gainesville, Florida.
