Finnish Composer Damström Visits Shenandoah Conservatory

Finnish composer Cecilia Damström visited Shenandoah Conservatory from Wednesday, Nov. 16, through Friday, Nov. 18, to celebrate the United States premiere performance of her new work “Helene” by the Van Buren Winds and to work with music students. Her new quintet for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and piano was presented on Friday, Nov. 18, in Goodson Chapel – Recital Hall during the faculty concert featuring Assistant Professor of Flute Julietta Curenton, M.M.; Anna Lee van Buren Endowed Chair in Clarinet, Coordinator of Winds and Percussion and Professor of Clarinet, Garrick Zoeter, M.M.; Adjunct Assistant Professor of Oboe Stephen Key, Performance Diploma, Oberlin Conservatory of Music; Associate Professor of Bassoon Ryan Romine, D.M.A., and Assistant Professor of Piano Alexander Bernstein ’16, D.M.

Damström also rehearsed with the Van Buren Winds and met with composition students during her visit.
