Shenandoah Graduate Named VDOE Chief of Staff

Jeremy Raley '11, takes on new role after serving as superintendent of schools for two Virginia counties

Shenandoah University Division of Education & Leadership graduate Jeremy Raley ’11, Ed.D., has been appointed the new chief of staff for the Virginia Department of Education.

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin made the announcement about Dr. Raley in tandem with the announcement that Tennessee Chief Academic Officer Lisa Coons has been appointed as as Virginia’s 27th superintendent of public instruction. Her appointment is effective Monday, April 17.

“Dr. Raley is a trusted school division superintendent from the Goochland and Shenandoah County communities, and will be a great asset to the department,” Virginia Secretary of Education Aimee Guidera said in a press release. “He is committed to serving Virginia families and educators as we all work together to support student success. Together, Dr. Coons and Dr. Raley bring decades of experience in education systems centered on high expectations and multiple pathways for every student, strong knowledge and experience in the commonwealth, and proven leadership.”

“In this new role, I will be able to serve our community and school divisions across the commonwealth, and I am humbled by the opportunity,” Raley said.
