Myers ’22 Reflects on Broadway Dance Center Experience

Cassidy Myers ’22 (Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance) shared the following reflections about her Professional Semester at Broadway Dance Center:

“I trained in the Broadway Dance Center Professional Semester since the end of January and closed out the program mid May. The training is incredible, as are the opportunities they provide. We had closed classes and seminars in the mornings, and then got to choose a certain number of drop-in classes from their schedule each week. We had masterclasses where we learned Broadway repertoire, Beyoncé tour choreography, various technique classes (Limon, Horton, Fosse, Jack Cole, etc.) and voice. We also had ‘mock’ auditions with agents from agencies such as Clear Talent Group, MSA and Bloc Talent Agency.”

“In our showcase, I was thrilled to dance in Chip Abbot’s theater piece, Mike Esperanza’s contemporary piece, Mallory Nolting’s tap piece, and both the opening and closing numbers choreographed by Sarah Juliet Shaw and Ian Schmoke.”

The showcase performances took place on Friday, May 12, at CitiGroup Theater (Alvin Ailey) in New York City.

“This program was 100% worth it for me because of the connections I’ve already made with teachers, choreographers, and fellow artists. I feel more acclimated to the dance scene in New York City, and more confident in myself and my abilities.”
