SUMTA Leads Celebration of 2024 World Music Therapy Week at SU

Shenandoah Conservatory’s music therapy program joined professionals, scholars, and students around the world in a special celebration of World Music Therapy Week, held April 10 through April 15. World Music Therapy Week is an event facilitated by the World Federation of Music Therapy that honors and celebrates music therapy around the world and the different ways in which music promotes healing and supports health.

Led by the Shenandoah University Music Therapy Association (SUMTA), students planned and participated in a range of activities that included advocacy events, lunch and learn activities, and community building.

Pictured are SUMTA President Lizzie Pearson ’25 (Bachelor of Music Therapy), Courtney Anthony ’24 (Bachelor of Music Therapy) and Sarah Barry ’25 (Bachelor of Music Therapy) who performed at Winchester Medical Center as part of an environmental impact initiative started by Adjunct Assistant Professor of Music Therapy Allison Terrell ’14, ’18, M.M.T., MT-BC, in which music is performed in public spaces in the hospital to positively impact patient and visitor experience.
