Shenandoah University Maintains Silver Military Friendly® Designation

SU recognized for its continued support of student veterans and their families

Shenandoah University has maintained its Military Friendly® School Silver designation for the upcoming 2024-25 academic year. This is the second straight year that Shenandoah has achieved the silver designation since rising up a level from bronze last year.

Institutions recognized with a Military Friendly® designation are evaluated using public and proprietary data gathered through the organization’s annual survey, which is offered to over 8,800 institutions nationwide. More than 1,800 schools participated in the 2024-25 survey with 537 earning special awards for going above the standard.

Methodology, criteria, and weightings were determined by Viqtory, which conducted the survey, with input from the Military Friendly ® Advisory Council of independent leaders in the higher education and military recruitment community. Final ratings were determined by combining the institution’s survey scores with the assessment of the institution’s ability to meet thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence (degree advancement or transfer) and loan default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans.

Shenandoah University is a Yellow Ribbon school and provides services for veterans, members of the military and veteran/military families, including a veterans center and a student group, one-on-one counseling and advising support. The university also holds annual events such as a Veterans of Foreign Wars awards ceremony, a 9/11 ceremony, veterans week, and an honor flight.

“Military Friendly® is committed to transparency and providing consistent data-driven standards in our designation process,” said Kayla Lopez, national director of military partnerships for Military Friendly®. “Our standards provide a benchmark that promotes positive outcomes and support services that better the educational landscape and provide opportunity for the Military Community. This creates a competitive atmosphere that encourages Institutions to evolve and invest in their programs consistently. Schools that achieve awards designation show true commitment in their efforts, going over and above that standard.”

The 2024-25 Military Friendly® Schools list will be published in the May and October issues of G.I. Jobs magazine, and can be found at militaryfriendly.com.
