September 2024 Class Notes

On Aug. 19, Stanley R. McDaniel (C ’70) announced the publication of his book, “Servanthood of Song: Music, Ministry, and the Church in the United States,” published by Cascade Books. Anita Hahn Thornton (C ’78), Jerilyn Payne (C ’77), Leslie Hall Faiers (B ’77) and Kathy Zimmerman (HP ’77, AS ’78)

On July 15, Nadine Dunn (C ’90) became the university relations, engineering advancement coordinator, for The University of Maryland. 

On July 5, Dan Shores (C ’99), Dan Merceruio (C ’06) and Josh Frey (C ’19, ’20) collaborated with Associate Professor of Voice (Soprano) Fotina Naumenko, D.M.A., to release a new album, “Bespoke Songs” on the New Focus Recordings label. 

On Aug. 21, it was announced that Cindy Ramsey (C ’05) will be teaching Algebra at Altavista Combined School. 

On Aug. 19, it was announced that Jessie Hooker-Bailey (C ’10) joined the Broadway national tour of “Company” in the role of Sarah.

On Aug. 23, Fredrica Dooley-Brown (C ’11, ’19) was featured in The Winchester Star article, “Kids with special needs shine when given the chance to jam,” for her work in presenting the “Summer Jam” program as Grafton Integrated Health Network’s music therapy instructor. (image to the left)

On Aug. 9, Scout Backus (C ’17) appeared in the Apple TV+ movie, “The Instigators,” starring Matt Damon and Casey Affleck.

On Sept. 6, Natalie Brooke (C ’17) returned to Winchester to headline a performance at The Monument

On Aug. 28, Steven Baker (AS ’21) joined the probate and estate planning practice group, Bouhan Falligant

On Aug. 23, it was announced that Joe Verga (C ’22) co-starred on the on season 4, episode 13 of the network television series “Evil”, which is available on Peacock and Amazon Prime.

On Aug. 22, it was announced that Aaliyah Chunn (AS ’24) will be the head volleyball coach for Strasburg High School.  

On Aug. 31, Nadine Nashed (P ’24) married John Awad. (image to the right)

Phyllis Ann (Clark) Harman (C ’92, ’95) of Woodstock, Virginia, passed away on May 10, 2024. 

Addison “AC” Carr (B ’10) of Gastonia, North Carolina, passed away on Aug. 27, 2024.

Andrew McDermott (B ’19) of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on Aug. 23, 2024.
