School of Business Announces Three New Academic Divisions

Reorganization Strategy Focuses on Enhancing Academic Focus and Growth

The Shenandoah University School of Business recently announced a comprehensive restructuring of its academic departments. This initiative introduces three specialized divisions, designed to equip students with the skills needed for a fast-evolving business landscape.

The divisions, each with unique academic and industry focuses, include:

  • Division of Management Studies and Marketing – Centered on cultivating expertise in leadership, organizational behavior, and marketing strategies relevant to today’s dynamic business environment.

Division Chair Montressa Washington, Ph.D., professor of management, is a seasoned management consultant with nearly 20 years in change management, technology adoption, and business transformation. Dr. Washington brings her industry knowledge to the classroom, teaching entrepreneurship, design thinking, and human resources. She also holds a Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) Certified Professional (SCP) credentials.

  • Division of Information and Analysis – Dedicated to preparing students for technology-centric careers through coursework in data-driven decision-making, business analytics, and information systems.

Division Chair Wenbin Tang, Ph.D., associate professor of accounting and finance, specializes in managerial and financial accounting, financial management, and investments. His research delves into market microstructure, asset pricing, and corporate earnings management. Dr. Tang has been a member of the Financial Management Association International since 2005.

  • Division of Sport Management and Esports – Emphasizing the burgeoning fields of sport management and esports, this division offers students innovative career paths in rapidly growing industries.

Division Chair Brian Wigley, Ed.D., professor of sport management and NCAA faculty athletics representative, has a wealth of experience in sports administration, policy, and the study of esports as an emerging economic force. Dr. Wigley’s expertise spans event management, NCAA collegiate athletics, and the integration of esports into academic programming, ensuring business students gain practical and strategic insights.

This new structure is an exciting step forward for the School of Business. By aligning our programs and our faculty into these three focused divisions, we’re responding to the demands of today’s employers and enhancing the relevance of our academic offerings. Each division will allow us to innovate more effectively and educate students on the knowledge and skills needed to succeed.”

School of Business Dean Jeff Coker, Ph.D

This reorganization reflects the School of Business’ commitment to a cutting-edge curriculum that will prepare students for success in an increasingly global marketplace.
