Karos ’18 Recognized as Outstanding Music Educator by MMEA

John Karos ’18 (Master of Music Education) has been recognized by the Maryland Music Educators Association (MMEA) as a 2025 Awards for Excellence recipient. Karos currently serves as the director of bands and performing arts department chair at Tuscarora High School in Frederick, Maryland. He oversees the band, orchestra, jazz, percussion, color guard and pit orchestra that constantly earn superior ratings. As music master teacher for Frederick County (Md.) Public Schools (FCPS), he mentors educators and serves as a lead teacher for FCPS All-County events. Holding degrees from Shenandoah Conservatory and Shepherd University, he is currently president of the Maryland Marching Band Association (MMBA) and is a strong advocate for music education.
