Conservatory Performs Receives Grant for Theatre Productions

Crescent Cities Charities Award Will Benefit Two Shows

A $10,000 grant from Crescent Cities Charities, Inc., will support two Shenandoah University theatre productions mounted as part of the 2025-26 Conservatory Performs season.

Crescent Cities Charities, based in Oxon Hills, Maryland, has seen a tenfold increase in grant applications since the grant program’s 2019 inception, writes Grants Committee Chairman Steven G. Novak in the organization’s award letter to Shenandoah. “Sadly, due to budgetary reasons, we are now unable to fund many of those requests. However, because of our past relationship and your organization’s outstanding work within the community, I am proud to report that the board has reviewed your grant proposal and is unanimous in its decision to provide a $10,000 grant to assist in your continued work with the arts,” he writes.

The grant funds will help cover the costs of scenery, costumes, lighting, sound, and properties for both productions, which provide educational and performance opportunities for student artists and enhance the cultural vibrancy of the Winchester, Virginia, region.

In the 2024-25 season, a Crescent Cities Charities grant provided support for the musical theatre productions Legally Blonde The Musical,” and Waitress” (university premiere).
