O’Conor Embarks on International Performance and Teaching Tour

Distinguished Artist-in-Residence, Harrison Endowed Chair in Piano, Chair of Keyboard Division and Professor of Piano John O’Conor, Mus.D., recently began a six-week concert and teaching tour across Asia, with engagements in South Korea, Japan, China and Thailand.

The tour includes two recitals and masterclasses at the Seoul Arts Center, as well as a masterclass at Seoul National University. In Japan, O’Conor will continue his annual residency at Showa University of Music, perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 with the Showa Symphony Orchestra, and present a recital at the Irish Embassy in Tokyo commemorating both Ireland’s assumption of the presidency of the European Economic Community and the 50th anniversary of his first recital in Tokyo. Additional engagements include a week of masterclasses at the Lanzhou International Piano Festival in China and a recital and masterclass at the Phuket Music School in Thailand.

Later this summer, O’Conor will travel to Colombia to lead Beethoven masterclasses in Bogotá before returning to Ireland for a series of recitals before returning to Shenandoah for the fall semester.
