Two-time alum opens football training and mentoring program

Byron Mitchell '14, '20

Byron Mitchell ’14, ’20 recently started his own company, Byron Mitchell Performance, LLC (BMP Program), a football training and mentoring program in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

The mission of BMP is to provide annual football skills clinics that give young athletes the opportunity to develop their football fundamentals while also growing as leaders and role models within their communities. Beyond improving athletic performance, the program emphasizes life skills, character development, relationship building, and the value of creating meaningful connections that will benefit athletes long after their playing days are over.

“I founded Byron Mitchell Performance (BMP) because I believe football is much more than a game. It is a powerful tool for developing the character and life skills young athletes need to succeed both on and off the field. Through the game, athletes learn the importance of discipline, respect, accountability, teamwork, and perseverance. These five core values serve as the foundation for becoming not only a better athlete, but also a responsible, confident, and well-rounded individual.”

While at SU, Mitchell was a four-year starter for the football team and captain his senior year. He earned all-league honors three times in his career. Mitchell came back and coached at his alma mater for three years as an assistant coach for defensive backs. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in university studies in 2014 and a Master of Science in education in 2020.
