Composer and arranger Alan Baylock ’90 (Bachelor of Music in Music Education) was recently appointed to the board of directors of the Jazz Education Network, an international organization dedicated to advancing jazz performance and education.

Baylock is widely recognized as one of today’s leading jazz composers, arrangers and educators. He serves as director of the Grammy-nominated One O’Clock Lab Band at the University of North Texas and previously spent 20 years as chief arranger for the USAF Airmen of Note in Washington, D.C. A frequent guest conductor and clinician, Baylock’s music has been performed and recorded by many of the world’s foremost jazz artists and ensembles.

A 1990 graduate of Shenandoah University, Baylock later returned to his alma mater as Jazz composer-in-residence. His appointment to the Jazz Education Network’s board of directors reflects his continued leadership and influence within the international jazz community and his longstanding commitment to excellence in jazz education.
