Tyrone Parker ’17 Celebrates 10 Years of Impact Through the TAP Foundation

A decade ago, Tyrone A. Parker II ’17 set out to remove the financial barriers that once stood in his way as a student. Today, his vision has grown into a powerful force for educational access: the TAP Foundation, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in July 2026.

Founded with a mission to support students, especially those from single‑parent households, the TAP Foundation has spent the past decade opening doors to higher education through scholarships, community engagement, and an annual benefit concert. What began as one alumnus’s dream has become a life‑changing resource for young scholars across the region.

This year, the foundation awarded scholarships to nine students, continuing its commitment to helping young people pursue their academic goals.

Among this year’s recipients is Leah Fornwalt, a Shenandoah University exercise science/pre‑physical therapy major whose dedication to her field reflects the spirit of the TAP Foundation’s mission.

Another past recipient was alumna Margot Axenson ’26, who received the scholarship three years in a row, demonstrating how sustained support can empower students throughout their academic journeys. Axenson graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration. 

Awarding scholarships to students from my alma mater is a special moment because I once sat where they are today. It fills me with so much joy to give back to the community that helped shape me and invest in the next generation’s future,” Parker said. “Being able to support students from single-parent households and help them pursue their dreams has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life,” he added.
