Deklin Smith ’24: From Hornet Nation to the Dallas Cowboys

Deklin Smith ’24 is spending his summer interning with the Dallas Cowboys, building on the foundation he created at Shenandoah University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in exercise science.
The professors always pushed us to excel and make the most of every opportunity. SU’s program helped me get ahead by widening my scope and giving me hands-on experience.”
He’s putting his Hornet experience to work at one of sports’ biggest organizations as he pursues a Master of Science in athletic training from the University of Delaware.
Smith also carried with him an understanding of resilience, teamwork and leadership that he developed as a member of the SU football team.
I learned how to overcome adversity and work toward a common goal. Coaches Scott Yoder and Kalvin Oliver helped shape me into the professional I am.”
Smith says Shenandoah remains central to his identity. “My time at SU is the backbone of my professional life. I’m grateful every day that I’m a Hornet.”
