Greek Life

Greek Life at Shenandoah covers a unique array of organizations, from those dedicated to service and philanthropy to ones with a professional focus in disciplines ranging from the performing arts to the health professions. These groups provide students with opportunities for growth, leadership development, advocacy, and engagement in the communities surrounding Shenandoah as well as the state and the nation.

Alpha Gamma Delta

Alpha Gam studentAlpha Gamma Delta is an international women’s organization committed to providing opportunities for personal development, service to others and a space for members to forge their own paths—all through a lifelong spirit of sisterhood. Alpha Gamma Delta challenges members to lead lives of significance that positively impact their communities.

Alpha Gamma Delta’s vision is “Inspire the Woman. Inspire the World.” In living up to this, it focuses on two main philanthropic components: service and fundraising.

Alpha Gamma Delta’s primary philanthropic focus is fighting hunger. One in eight Americans struggle with hunger. Hunger affects every race, age and community. By partnering nationally with Feeding America and Meals on Wheels along with other local organizations, Alpha Gamma Delta is able to make an impact on communities.

Phi Kappa Tau

Founded in 1906, Phi Kappa Tau’s mission is to “champion a lifelong commitment to brotherhood, learning, ethical leadership and exemplary character,” and it challenges its members to improve their college campuses and the world around them.
Phi Kappa Tau has been formally partnered with SeriousFun Children’s Network, an international youth camp founded in 1988 by Phi Tau alumnus Paul Newman that provides an escape for children with terminal or life-threatening illnesses.

Sigma Nu

Sigma Nu, which was founded in 1869 at the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia, was originally established in direct opposition to hazing. Built on the principles of love, honor, and truth, Sigma Nu’s mission is to develop ethical leaders by fostering the growth of each member’s mind, heart and character while promoting lifelong bonds of brotherhood.
In 2004, Sigma Nu established the Helping Hand Initiative, a call to action for collegiate and alumni members to get involved in community service and philanthropy within their local communities.
