A nationally recognized speaker, author, educator, and advocate, Dr. Alvarado is passionate about developing sustainable solutions that strengthen healthcare systems and expand access to high-quality maternal care. Her professional mission centers on empowering women, supporting families, and preparing future healthcare leaders to create meaningful change in the communities they serve. Dr. Alvarado is a Fellow of the American College of Nurse-Midwives (FACNM), a current Rural Health Fellow with the National Rural Health Association (NRHA), a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE), and a TexasAIM Implementation Mentor. She serves as Treasurer of the Consortium of Texas Certified Nurse-Midwives (CTCNM), the Texas affiliate of ACNM, and as Chair-in-Waiting for the ACNM Annual Meeting and Exhibition Planning Committee.

Research

Dr. Alvarado’s scholarship focuses on improving maternal health outcomes through innovative, evidence-based solutions that increase access to care in rural and underserved communities. Her areas of interest include rural maternal health, midwifery-led models of care, obstetric emergency preparedness, simulation-based education, healthcare workforce development, and health policy. She is particularly interested in developing sustainable strategies that improve access to women’s healthcare. Current projects include rural maternal health program development, obstetric emergency simulation training, telehealth care delivery models, and research examining the role of midwives in addressing maternal health disparities.

Personal Highlights

Outside of her professional roles, Dr. Alvarado enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, baking, golfing, and exploring new coffee shops. She is passionate about mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals and believes strongly in servant leadership, community engagement, and lifelong learning. As a first-generation healthcare leader who worked multiple jobs while pursuing her education, she values perseverance, hard work, and creating opportunities for others to succeed. She is especially passionate about empowering women to pursue ambitious goals both personally and professionally.
