Five Pillars of the Shenandoah University Alumni Association

1. Admissions

  • College fair schedule – List of alumni in that area outside of board members
  • Admitted student/prospective student local gatherings
  • Admitted student communications
  • Admissions trainings
  • Storytelling (video or in-person)
  • Support the Office of Admissions

2. Alumni Engagement

  • Increase intentional communications
  • Understand Needs
  • Spotlight alumni (not just visible success)
  • Determine root cause of lower than average engagement (not connecting and not aware of Shenandoah’s success/needs

3. Student Engagement

  • Alumni Happy Hour
  • Get more alumni to mentor to current students or have them intern at their workplace
  • Have an alumni presence at campus events (Convocation, Commencement, Move-In Day, etc.)
  • Keep connecting with current students throughout their time at Shenandoah through postcard/email
  • Make connections with student organizations on campus (SGA, Black Student Union, Men United for Excellence, etc.) and Student Life
  • Share alumni stories with current students

4. Career Planning & Placement

  • Make connections between current students and alumni
  • After graduation, make connections between graduating students/alumni and the university
  • Continue webinars/lunch and learns/offer resources for career help and supplemental training
  • Financial Literacy – Educate students on impact of long-term financial debt
  • Create a network for currents students and alumni to make connections with people who can help them
  • Make career contacts by networking with alumni
