Faculty receive awards, publish, and consult on a Super Bowl commercial

The Virginia Pharmacists Association (VPhA) held its annual Pharmacy Legislative Day at the end of January, in Richmond, Virginia. Eight Shenandoah student pharmacists and a faculty member attended the event. Students were assigned teams with other student pharmacists, residents and pharmacists from Virginia to offer health screenings (blood pressure, blood glucose and cholesterol) and to advocate about legislation facing the profession of pharmacy in Virginia. Shenandoah’s group spoke with legislative aides, delegates and state senators. Students also went to the House of Delegates and Senate gallery, where the profession of pharmacy was recognized.

Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice Sarah Parnapy Jawaid, Pharm.D., was selected by the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Academy of Pharmacy Practice & Management as a 2019 APhA Fellow. The selection press release notes that she is active at the national, state and local levels of pharmacy, passionate about pharmacy, and a tireless advocate for the profession. Professor of Biopharmaceutical Sciences Craig Richard, Ph.D., served as a consultant on an consulting for an Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response-based Michelob Ultra commercial aired during the 2019 Super Bowl.

Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice Thomas Ellington, Pharm.D., published an article, “A Systematic and Evidence-Based Review of Published and Pending Reports of Andexanet Alfa,” in the Journal of Pharmacy Practice. 

Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Associate Professor of Biopharmaceutical Sciences Timothy Bloom, Ph.D., was elected as the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy’s Council of Sections Secretary of Knowledge Management.
