University Monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Situation

There are no cases of coronavirus at Shenandoah University

Traveling Concerns During Spring Break

Spring break is quickly approaching at Shenandoah University. It will occur March 8th-14th. We recommend if you are traveling internationally that you check current recommendations and travel advisories regarding coronavirus (novel coronavirus, known as COVID-19). Currently, the U.S. State Department recommends no recreational travel to and from China.

At this time, there are no Global Citizenship Project trips planned to locations in which the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) or State Department is recommending to not travel. We will continue to monitor the situation daily and make adjustments to travel plans if warranted.

The World Health Organization does not recommend any specific health measures for travelers. In case of symptoms suggestive of respiratory illness either during or after travel, travelers are encouraged to seek medical attention and share their travel history with their health care provider.

Shenandoah is closely monitoring the situation.

There are no cases of coronavirus at Shenandoah University or in the commonwealth of Virginia.

However, the Virginia Department of Health and the CDC have proactively developed guidance for local health departments to address concerns for the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). At Shenandoah, we have been able to participate in these efforts, via teleconferences. Review the guidelines for universities.

Way to reduce the general risk of transmission

Also, please keep in mind the basic principles to reduce the general risk of transmission of acute respiratory infections, which include the following:

  • Avoiding close contact with people suffering from acute respiratory infections.
  • Frequent hand-washing, especially after direct contact with ill people or their environment.
  • Avoiding unprotected contact with farm or wild animals.
  • People with symptoms of acute respiratory infection should practice cough etiquette:
    • maintain distance
    • cover coughs and sneezes with disposable tissues or clothing
    • wash hands
