Morris ’24, ’25 Presents at MTNA Collegiate Chapters Symposium

Pianist Sarah Morris ’24, ’25 (Doctor of Musical Arts in Performance, Graduate Certificate in Performing Arts Health & Fitness) presented at the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Collegiate Chapters Symposium hosted on the campus of Texas Christian University on Jan. 14 and Jan. 15. Her presentation, “But doesn’t that hurt your wrists? The truth about lifting weights for musicians,” was well attended and invited full audience participation during the interactive portion.

“I learned a great deal from attending,” said Morris. “I received many good questions and positive feedback both immediately following the session and throughout the day.”

Morris was also invited to be a panelist at the MTNA National Conference in March and her abstract “Weight Training for Pianists” was accepted as a poster presentation at the 2023 Performing Arts Medicine Association (PAMA) International Symposium in July at the Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York, New York.

“I am so honored and excited for these opportunities,” continued Morris.

Morris studies with Distinguished Artist-in-Residence, Chair of Keyboard Division and Professor of Piano John O’Conor, Mus.D.
