Haven Teaches Tambour Beading Masterclass

Robert Haven visited campus on Nov. 18, to teach a masterclass in tambour beading for the students in the Special Topics in Costuming class taught by Costume Designer and Associate Professor of Costume Design Jennifer Flitton Adams, M.F.A. Haven is a retired professor from the University of Kentucky and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. A master tambour bead expert and one of the only teachers of this skill in the United States, Haven travels nationally and internationally teaching these and other hand work skills. He came to Shenandoah in 2021, to teach a masterclass in metallic goldwork embroidery.

“In addition to his technical skills, Haven is a superb teacher with a wicked sense of humor,” said Adams. “We had a wonderful time with him!”
