Girls In Aviation Day 2024 Advances STEM and Aviation Careers

University Promotes BBA/Concentration in Aviation Studies AND VR Design Programs

Girls in Aviation 2024The School of Business participated in the Girls in Aviation Day on Sept. 21, at the Winchester Regional Airport. The sold-out event attracted 250 participants and focused on educating girls, ages 8 to 18, about STEM and aviation careers. The annual event was sponsored by the Regulus Group, STEM Flights, the Winchester Regional Airport, and the Winchester Regional Aviation Foundation.

The university’s Virtual Reality Design program and the Shenandoah Center for Immersive Learning (SCiL) also participated in the event, showcasing a student-developed generative AI project where visitors could have unscripted conversations with aviation pioneers such as Amelia Earhart, an Apple Vision Pro headset that placed a virtual version of the Mars Curiosity Rover into the event hangar, and a flight simulator setup where visitors could practice their takeoffs and landings.

Did you know the university provides credit for FAA-certified flight training as a part of a Bachelor of Business Administration/Aviation Studies concentration, providing a pathway for licensed pilots to obtain a bachelor’s degree with fewer total classes needed? Learn more at su.edu/aviation
