Council Members Inaugurated on April 24

Written by Natalie Gales ’25

On Thursday, April 24, the Student Government Association held its inauguration ceremony for the 2025-26 Executive Council in the Pruitt Health & Life Sciences Building, Halpin Rotunda. The Executive Council consists of undergraduate and graduate students dedicated to leading other members of the SGA and serving as liaisons with faculty. Although most positions are chosen through an application process, Shenandoah University students elect the president and vice presidents each spring.

This year’s Executive Council is as follows:

  • President: Carter Sand
  • Vice President of Undergraduate Affairs: Masha Balakersky
  • Vice President of Graduate Affairs: Carlie Cross
  • Director of Communications: Amy Oleksy
  • Director of IDE: Jessica Velasquez
  • Director of Finance: Emma Thompson
  • Speaker of the House: Elisabeth Myers
  • Chief of Staff: Jaxson Hall

Carter Sand ’27, a psychology student in the early assurance physician assistant program, shared what he is most looking forward to in his role as SGA president. “I’m eager to connect with students, listen to their ideas and concerns, and be a strong advocate for the entire student body,” he said. “I also look forward to collaborating with senior administrators to address challenges and drive meaningful improvements across campus, ensuring Shenandoah University continues to grow as a supportive and innovative community. Being a part of SGA gives me a sense of purpose and the chance to contribute to something larger than myself.”
