Shenandoah University Business Students Explore Wall Street

Trip to NYC included private visit to Deutsche Bank and a tour of the Financial District

Shenandoah University’s School of Business sent a group of students to New York City on Nov. 13 for a high-impact, immersive business experience in the heart of the global financial world.

The full-day trip included a private visit to Deutsche Bank’s U.S. headquarters near Columbus Circle, where students met with the firm’s internship coordinator and heard directly from professionals across several business divisions. The presentations featured Deutsche Bank employees who had previously completed the company’s internship program and are now thriving in various roles across the organization. Following the presentations, Shenandoah students participated in a networking session that allowed them to ask questions, make connections and learn about potential career paths.

After the corporate visit, students traveled to Lower Manhattan for a guided walking tour of the Financial District, including historic sites such as the New York Stock Exchange, Federal Hall, and Trinity Church. The tour connected financial theory and history to the modern business world in a way that was both educational and inspiring, said Jeff Coker, Ph.D., interim dean of the School of Business.

The day concluded with a visit to One World Trade Center, where students took in nighttime views of the city from the observation deck at the top of the Freedom Tower. For many students, it was their first time in New York City.

The trip was fully funded by the School of Business, which covered transportation, meals, and all venue admissions.

“This experience gave our students a chance to see what’s possible,” Dr. Coker said. “They were hearing directly from professionals who started out just like them – as interns navigating their career paths – and are now working in one of the most respected financial institutions in the world. It made the future feel real and reachable.”

Coker added that the trip reflects the business school’s ongoing commitment to providing experiential learning opportunities that connect students directly with industry leaders, global institutions, and real-world business environments.
