SU triple alumnus named elementary school principal

Bryce Mitchell ’14, ’17, ’22 is the new principal of Waterview Elementary School in Portsmouth, Virginia, a milestone that reflects both his professional dedication and the deep roots he’s built in education over the past decade.

Mitchell is poised to strengthen the Waterview community by building meaningful connections with families, empowering teachers, and creating an environment where every student feels supported and inspired. His leadership style centers on listening first, understanding the needs of the school, and fostering a culture where collaboration and care guide every decision.

The most important part of being a principal is to make an impact on students, staff, and families through relationships and support.”

While at SU, Mitchell earned a Bachelor of Science in exercise science, a Master of Science in education, and a Professional Studies Certificate for Licensure in Administration and Supervision. He was also a member of the men’s basketball team and Men United for Excellence.

Shenandoah helped me build the leadership skills that I need in order for me to be a successful school administrator. It also helped me build strong critical thinking skills that are needed in order to move properly throughout life in general.”

Currently, Mitchell is a member of the SU Black Alumni Network (BAN), where he serves as the senior advisor and held the position of the first vice president.
