Mekiah Thomas ’30 (Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre) has been selected as a 2026 University Scholar through the American Theatre Wing’s Andrew Lloyd Webber Initiative. Designed to support students pursuing theatre studies in higher education, the scholarship provides $10,000 annually and is renewable for up to four years, for a total award of up to $40,000. Recipients also receive opportunities for mentorship, masterclasses and professional development.

Thomas was selected through a multi-round application process that included contrasting vocal performance videos, personal and financial-need statements, an introductory video and additional writing about her college selection and future aspirations. She is one of a select group of 2026 University Scholars recognized by the initiative as it works to expand access to theatre education and professional opportunities.
