The Bachelor of Arts in Dance is designed for students who are interested in a broad general academic education and who wish to advance their dance training at a high level alongside their chosen academic focus. The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance prepares students for professional careers as performers, choreographers, and dance educators. Our American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) approved Bachelor of Music Therapy prepares you to work with children, teens and adults in a wide range of settings — including schools, hospitals, retirement communities and hospice settings. You learn to design, implement and evaluate therapeutic music experiences tailored to the individual needs of the clients you work with. This program is located at the Winchester Main Campus.

As part of Shenandoah University’s Bachelor of Arts in Contemporary Musicianship & Entrepreneur Development (with a built-in minor in entrepreneurship) you’ll develop the exceptional technological, business, marketing, entrepreneurial, and musical skills and innovative mindset you need to forge your music industry career. The newly crafted three-year or four-year, 120-credit Bachelor of Music in Jazz & Commercial Music offers an accelerated plan focused on performance and entrepreneurship preparing artists for today’s music world. You’ll learn from inspiring performers and passionate teachers, and interact with a vibrant community of jazz and classical musicians. You’ll also perform on recording projects in a world-class recording studio, perform with guest artists, travel internationally to perform and enjoy clinic opportunities from guest lecturers. Our Bachelor of Music Production & Recording Technology focuses on the art of music production and recording technology. You’ll gain a deep understanding of music, music theory, arranging, history, performance, the audio recording process, live sound reinforcement, MIDI, DAWs (digital audio workstations), analog and digital recording technology, popular songwriting, and music production. Our state-of-the-art facility features integrated Apple mobile technology in the classroom. You’ll graduate with a versatile skill set that will enable you to work professionally with musicians and artists as a producer, coach and leader in the recording studio, helping to guide, capture and develop creative work. The Bachelor of Arts in Collaborative Audio Arts curriculum is designed for students who wish to combine a passion for creative expression with interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary study. Students will develop skills in AR/VR, film studies, music recording, sound reinforcement, etc. This program is located at the Winchester Main Campus.

In the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Design and Production program, you will follow your passion and learn the art of theatrical storytelling. Through a diverse curriculum, you will be challenged to find your inner artist and develop skills and hands-on experience that will enable you to start your professional career such as scenic design, lighting design, costume design, stage management, technical production, and sound design & reinforcement. Graduate

The two-year, 33-credit Master of Music Therapy (MMT) degree provides advanced theoretical, clinical and musical knowledge and skills for Board Certified Music Therapists (MT-BC) who wish to advance their clinical practice. Students complete coursework in a combination of distance learning and intensive weekend retreats, with ongoing mentorship from faculty, allowing them to continue their work as a music therapist with minimal interruption. This program is located at the Winchester Main Campus.

The Master of Arts in Music Therapy and Professional Counseling integrates clinical mental health counseling and music therapy coursework to provide a comprehensive education emphasizing ethical and culturally responsive treatment strategies. This degree fulfills the academic requirements to become a nationally board certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Virginia. This interdisciplinary degree offers core theoretical and clinical classes in both music therapy and clinical mental health counseling, preparing students to deliver evidence-based individual and group therapy in a broad range of clinical settings. The Performing Arts Leadership & Management (PALM) program provides online classroom training in arts leadership, marketing, fundraising, financial management, entrepreneurship and governance, and program/project planning that prepares students to find a meaningful professional career in the field of performing arts

The Master of Music in Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM) Voice Pedagogy curriculum immerses learners in a pedagogic wonderland of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, acoustics, historical and contemporary vocal techniques, repertoire and the practical skills necessary to run a successful business. Students who are interested in research can actively participate in projects that are presented at The Voice Foundation Annual Symposium: Care of the Professional Voice and frequently published in the Journal of Voice. Available as an online program, all courses are taught in FLEX format which gives the learners the option of attending class in-person at the Winchester Main Campus or remotely. Learners can come to campus when they are able or complete the whole degree online. In addition to the core coursework, our on-campus learners will have access to all of the conservatory’s opportunities.

In Shenandoah’s Master of Music Performance Program, you’ll study with faculty who are inspiring performers and passionate teachers, perform in ensembles led by challenging conductors, work with exciting and world-renowned guest artists, and enjoy opportunities for international travel. You’ll be trained as a comprehensive musician. Our broad yet focused approach, with faculty who are excellent performers and role models, gives you the foundation to reach your goals. Grounded in its commitment to the creation and performance of new music in a variety of contemporary idioms, the Master of Music in Composition degree is designed to enhance the skills of the composer of serious art music, and to prepare students for professional work in composition, or for continued graduate study. The student’s creative skills are guided and developed through intense study in, and the practical application of, 20th and 21st century art music. Shenandoah Conservatory’s conducting program is designed to develop conducting, analysis and interpretive skills and offers degrees in choral, musical theatre, orchestral, and wind/band conducting. Shenandoah Conservatory produces more than 400 performances and more than 20 instrumental, vocal, and dance ensembles each year.
