PA Program Represented At VAPA Conference

Alumni Present and Students Compete

From Nov. 2 to Nov. 4, many physician assistant (PA) program faculty, students and alumni attended the VAPA (Virginia Academy of Physician Assistants) Fall Continuing Medical Education (CME) Conference in McLean, Virginia.

Shenandoah was well represented with CME talks on the following topics: “From Knowledge to Implementation: Strategies for Increasing Patients’ Participation and Success with Behavior Change,” by Sheila Hautbois ’17, PA-C, CHES (pictured above to the far right) and “Pediatric Sickle Cell Disease Emergencies,” by Maggie Connealy ’17, PA-C (pictured to the far left). Shea Dempsey ’12, DMSc, PA-C, (pictured in the center) taught the workshop, “Introduction to Basic Bedside Ultrasound.” He is adjunct faculty at Shenandoah and is also an alumnus of the Shenandoah’s PA program.

Shenandoah also brought students to a Challenge Bowl competition against other PA programs in the state of Virginia. The SU PA program was represented by Kristen Walker ’18, Nicole Jones ’18 and Lauren Rusy ’19. Distinguished Professor and Director of Physician Assistant Studies Anthony Miller Anthony A. Miller, M.Ed., PA-C, placed a friendly handshake wager on the outcome of the Challenge Bowl with faculty from the JMU PA program. The students were also cheered on by many of their classmates from multiple cohorts and Shenandoah PA program faculty members.
