Business Students Win Direct Marketing Case Competition

Trio Bests Teams From D.C.-Area Colleges & Universities

A team composed of three Shenandoah University Harry F. Byrd, Jr. School of Business students won the Direct Marketing Association of Washington Educational Foundation‘s collegiate marketing oral case competition in November.

The competition usually attracts major universities from throughout the Washington, D.C. region. Shenandoah’s team – consisting of Haoxuan Tang ’20, Andre Wavrek ’20 and Brianna Turner ’21 – developed a direct marketing communication plan for a given case for the competition, said Marketing Professor Sally Kim, Ph.D., who is the team’s adviser.

The team won a $500 award, and garnered accolades from the judges, such as “great job” and “terrific job,” Dr. Kim said. The students’ work even inspired a direct marketing professional who wasn’t on the judging panel to compliment their efforts, she said.

All three of the students are business majors who took Kim’s Introduction to Marketing course last semester and are currently enrolled in Independent Study with her.
