The Songwriting Certificate is designed for students interested in developing the ability to write and produce their own music.
Study of lyric writing, melody, harmony, music theory and entrepreneurial strategies provide the foundation to build creative skills.

Application Requirements
Students may not apply for the Songwriting Certificate until they have begun their first semester of study at Shenandoah Conservatory.
To apply, submit the following via to Dr. Rod Vester via email at rvester@su.edu:
- Videos of TWO original songs. These songs may be self-accompanied or include supporting musicians/singers. A cappella vocal performances are not acceptable.
- Typed lyric sheets for each song.
- A short (200 words) essay describing your interest in songwriting, highlighting influences, and future goals.
