The Turning Point Program is for students currently enrolled at Shenandoah University who are on academic notice. The intent behind placing students with low GPAs or multiple withdrawals on notice is to inform the students of their status and ensure that they have additional support.
Upon entering the Turning Point Program, the student will meet with the assistant director of learning support services for an interview and assessment of learning style, study habits, and reading skill. The assistant director and the student will develop an individualized written plan for academic success which will be signed by the student. The plan may include:
- Regularly scheduled meetings with learning and student support staff
- Enrollment in a one-credit study skills class
- Supervised study in the Academic Center for Excellence
- Tutoring
- Utilization of self-paced resources (videos, computer programs) in the Academic Center for Excellence
- Career Planning
- Connection with other support services on campus (academic coaching, accommodations, mental health counseling, academic advising)
- Regular evaluation of progress toward learning goals
