Dear Alumni and Friends,
Summer kicked off in fine fashion at commencement on May 12. This year, 1,302 graduates were celebrated along with family, friends, faculty and staff inside the James R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics & Events Center. Along with the celebration of graduates, James R. “Jimmy” Wilkins, Jr. was presented the President’s Medal for his continued support and commitment to the university. It was a magical sight to see nearly 5,000 family and friends under one roof in order to honor the graduates. I hope you all were able to catch the videos on social media, or, check out the alumni news website for the videos as well. Congratulations, Class of 2018!
There are fun events planned up and down the east coast this summer with our Swarm the Park events! If you’re in the area, I hope you are able to attend. The first event will be at Hersheypark on Saturday, June 30. It’s an all-day event and features an all-access pass to the park. Be sure to find Buzzy, who will be hanging in the park as well. On Saturday, July 21, Six Flags Over Georgia in Atlanta will host Shenandoah alumni. Luna Park, Coney Island is the next stop for Hornet alums on Saturday, July 29 – special thanks to Luna Park’s Group Sales Manager and Shenandoah alumnus Jeff Klein ’90 who made this possible for our alums! A portion of the proceeds from the Luna Park event go toward the Hal Herman Lab Theatre. Swarm the Park ends with an event at Kings Dominion on Saturday, August 4. Be sure to check the alumni website as registration for most of these will close soon! Happy summer to all!
