Dear Alumni and Friends,
I can hardly believe that summer is coming to an end and the fall semester is just a few weeks away. There were so many fun events for alumni to attend this summer! The final Swarm the Park event was held at Kings Dominion on Saturday, Aug. 4, in conjunction with their BBQ & Brew Fest. I wasn’t able to attend, but have heard it was a fun-filled day for all!
Welcome Week for all new incoming students kicks off on Tuesday, Aug. 21, with Move-In Day. Move-In Day has become such a great tradition with Shenandoah faculty, staff, students, and alumni volunteers helping new students move into their new residence halls. It’s amazing to see how quickly volunteers swarm the cars of new students to help get everything moved into their new home. The rest of the week has activities on tap to get new students oriented and comfortable at Shenandoah.
There are many upcoming events to put on your calendar for Fall 2018. Many of you should have already received the 2018 Homecoming brochure, detailing the events that will be held Friday, Oct. 5, through Sunday, Oct. 7. Visit su.edu/homecoming18 to see a full list of events and register. I hope you come back and reconnect with classmates, as well as faculty and staff. On Friday, join us for the the Alumni Celebration Dinner where the 2018 Distinguished Alumni Award recipients will be recognized, and then keep the party going with the Old Town Pub Crawl afterwards. New this year is the Alumni Golf Tournament at Rock Harbor, which will kick off Homecoming’s Saturday events. At 11 a.m., don’t miss out on the Football Tailgate Party, followed by the Buzzy Statue Unveiling at noon and the Homecoming Football Game versus Hampden-Sydney at 1 p.m. It is going to be such a jam-packed, family friendly weekend. I look forward to seeing you all there!
