Dear Alumni and Friends,
It certainly is a great week to be a Hornet! First, I want to congratulate Shamyra Wilkerson ’19, who became the university’s first-ever Track and Field All-American honoree this past weekend. Shamyra posted a new school record in the 200 meter with a time of 25.18 seconds. What an amazing accomplishment and way to represent Shenandoah at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships.
I also want to congratulate the women’s basketball team on their historic run in the ODAC tournament last month and their appearance in the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball tournament. They competed in the first round of the tournament because of the automatic bid they earned when they won their first-ever ODAC championship (as an eight-seed!). Great job, ladies!
I’ve had a smile on my face recently as Shenandoah has been covered in the local newspaper numerous times over the past weekend. If you are able to access The Winchester Star online, check out two great articles, “Sowing the seeds of success” and “You’re majoring in what?” The first article highlights the work of occupational therapy students with a local farm that employs workers with intellectual and physical disabilities. These students are making a huge impact. The second article is an insight into Shenandoah’s esports teams and the new major that will be available beginning this fall semester. Check out the articles (you can read five free per month!) and read about the new and exciting things happening at Shenandoah.
I also wanted to send out a reminder to mark your calendars for Shenandoah’s fourth annual Day of Giving, which runs from noon on Thursday, April 11, to noon on Friday, April 12. All alumni are invited to come support the university during a cookout celebration at Sarah’s Glen on main campus on Thursday, April 11; beginning at noon that day, there will be music, food, games and giveaways. Please plan to join me on campus or online to support your Hornet community!
