Dear Alumni and Friends,
Swarm the Park: Hersheypark couldn’t have been more fun last Saturday, Aug. 10! The beautiful weather, splashing in the pools, endless smiles from the kids and countless rides made for a perfect day. My family and I will definitely be returning next year for such a fun event.
As I write my final message as president of the Alumni Association, I can’t help but reflect back upon how great the past two years have been. As an alumna of the physician assistant studies program at Shenandoah, I wasn’t exposed to much of the actual university during my time in school. However, during the past two years, I have been exposed to everything and all things surrounding Shenandoah. It has been such a memorable and enriching experience. I have witnessed the young men and women of Shenandoah impress me again and again. My favorite to-date has been all of the athletic games my family and I have attended where we cheered on the Hornets!
It’s hard to believe that students will be back on campus starting next week! Before we know it, the fall semester will be in full swing and Homecoming will be upon us. Mark your calendars for Homecoming and Family Weekend 2019, which will be held on Oct. 2 through Oct. 6. Visit www.su.edu/homecoming for the full list of events and to register as well.
Homecoming kicks off on Wednesday, Oct. 2, with Volleyball vs. Gettysburg followed by the Club Sports Showcase & Pep Rally. Then on Thursday, Oct. 3, you don’t want to miss the Something Rotten! Opening Reception in Glaize Studio, prior to the show’s premiere in Ohrstrom-Bryant Theatre. Friday, Oct. 4, we are hosting a dedication ceremony for Dove’s Nest, the third building in The Village. This building was made possible by Wilbur G. Dove ’59 and his wife, Clare. That evening, please be sure to stick around for the Alumni Celebration Dinner, which begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Ferrari Room, located inside the Brandt Student Center. The day is capped off with Late Night Bingo at 9 p.m. in the Brandt Student Center Food Court and the Old Town Crawl on the Old Town Walking Mall from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, is packed with activities as well! Start your day at the Alumni Brunch at West Oaks Farm Market, then head to the second annual Alumni Golf Tournament beginning at 1 p.m. Tailgating starts at 4 p.m., and the Football Tailgate Party will feature food trucks, game and 80’s music followed by the football game at 7 p.m. We are also celebrating the class of 1969’s 50th Reunion with a champagne toast in the President’s Box prior to the game!
There is something for everyone throughout the week and weekend, and I look forward to seeing familiar faces as well as seeing new faces! Bring your family and enjoy all Shenandoah has put together for the weekend.
