Dear Friends,
I hope wherever you are that you and your families are healthy and safe!
SU Homecoming 2020 took place last week! The pandemic eliminated the in-person events this year. Being virtual (and free) allowed us the opportunity to check out lots of events and “see” many classmates. Kudos to the staff of the Donor & Alumni Relations Office and their tech support for organizing everything. Hopefully you were able to attend!
For me, the highlight of the entire week was Bobby Spencer’s Facebook Live concert! Several years ago, Bobby and the Midtown Men performed at the Shenandoah Valley Music Festival. Since then, we have been working on getting Bobby and the Midtown Men to SU for a performance during the Conservatory Alumni Reunion. The pandemic put all of that on hold but fortunately, Bobby was able to join us for Homecoming! It was a fantastic concert! I was very honored to introduce Bobby. During our chat, he answered questions submitted by music theatre students and talked about his experiences at SU. It was great to read all the comments by alums during the concert!
Fall has arrived with all its glory here in the Shenandoah Valley. The trees are gorgeous and my commute along Route 7 has been spectacular. The local farm markets are doing a brisk business as folks enjoy the weather and look for ways to safely socialize. My commute takes me past the entrance to the Appalachian Trail which is always full of hikers on the weekends.
As always, be sure to check your email and social media for the latest SU news. The Office of Donor & Alumni Relations has launched several new virtual programs that we can take advantage of.
Best,
Susan Helsley
