Happy (almost) Spring!
All around us are signs of the approaching season. Birds are chirping, flowers are poking their heads above the ground and slowly but surely, spring will make its appearance.
Do you remember what March was like on campus? The wind would literally knock you down as you made your way to the cafeteria. We crowded into the tiny foyer to stay warm! I recently saw pictures of SU students sledding down Cardiac Hill – remember using the cafeteria trays as sleds? It was risky but oh so much fun!
I hope you have been keeping up with the partnership SU has with Valley Health as a POD for the COVID-19 vaccinations. The response of the surrounding community and beyond has been extremely positive. My husband went to the Wilkins Athletics & Events Center last week to be vaccinated and he was so impressed by the entire process and the volunteers. He even commented on the harpist playing in the waiting area!
This month marks a year since life changed for everyone, and what a year it has been! We have all had to adapt to the changes brought by the pandemic. It’s been hard and many continue to struggle. Like many of you, I have had to rely heavily on technology and learn many new tricks to keep up with virtual learning and working from home.
Personally, we welcomed a new grandson last March and are awaiting the birth of another grandson in April. Last weekend, we hosted a drive-by baby shower for the mother-to-be. So many friends drove by to drop off gifts and briefly visit with the expectant parents! We offered hot drinks to go along with some delicious treats and hand sanitizer! Later that afternoon, we hosted a virtual gift opening which was just as much fun as the drive-by shower! Thank goodness for the technology that enabled everyone to share in the joy and fun!
I hope wherever you are, you and your families are healthy and safe. We all look forward to the day when current restrictions are lifted, and life becomes a little more normal.
Best,
Susan Helsley
