Greetings from Winchester!
Spring is in the air! The Winchester campus is lovely – trees and flowers are blooming, and the grass is turning that beautiful shade of spring green. It’s a pleasure to drive through campus this time of year. Students, faculty and staff are outside taking advantage of the beautiful weather.
Speaking of blooming, Winchester is gearing up for Apple Blossom! Yes, the Bloom is happening this year. There won’t be any parades due to COVID and crowds, but other events will still happen on a smaller scale. I’ll bet most of us have great memories of the various events such as the parades and the midway. Perhaps some of you marched with your high school bands in the parades or helped get the dorms ready for visiting bands. When I was an undergrad, the academic year ended before the weekend before Apple Blossom so the dorms could be used to house out-of-town bands. What are your favorite memories of the Bloom? Alumni continue to travel to and attend festival events. Perhaps we will see you there!
Shenandoah is continuing its partnership with Valley Health as a POD for COVID vaccines. Faculty, staff and students are among the volunteers staffing the POD. It has been and continues to be a tremendous partnership which has received state and national recognition.
Are you keeping up to date with campus events? Be sure to read emails from SU and check the website for concerts and other events.
Spring is a time of renewal. For our family, the recent birth of our grandson was a strong reminder of renewal and rebirth. COVID restrictions meant we had to wait two weeks to see him, but little Owen was worth the wait!
I hope wherever you are, that you and your families are safe and well. We all look forward to the time when we can take off our masks and navigate this new normal.
Warmly,
Susan Helsley
President, SU Alumni Association
