Dear Alumni,
I start out this month’s message with a somber reminder on life’s fragility. Former Shenandoah University Public Safety officer Vashon “J.J.” Jefferson was killed Feb. 1 in a shooting at Bridgewater College, where he had been serving as a campus safety officer. J.J. and another Bridgewater College campus police officer and close friend, John Painter, both died in the shooting. Please keep Shannon Oates Jefferson, J.J.’s wife and a 2013 alumna of Shenandoah in your thoughts and prayers. The Vashon “J.J.” Jefferson Memorial Scholarship has been established to honor his memory. If you would like to make a donation, click here.
Shifting gears, by now you should have received an email from the alumni office about our alumni survey. I hope you will consider completing the survey because we want to know what you want to get out of your alumni experience. Based on the survey results, we will update our programming, create new initiatives, and tailor our communications to better suit your needs. All Shenandoah University alumni who complete the survey before it closes at midnight on Monday, February 28, 2022 will be entered into a drawing to win prizes such as a 55” Smart TV, a Keurig machine, or a $50 Amazon gift card! To respond to the survey, visit https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/QKLPLRX.
I am pleased to report Shenandoah’s search for the next Assistant Vice President/Executive Director of Alumni Relations and Constituent Relations is progressing nicely. The goal is to have the position filled by spring.
Finally, if you have not yet downloaded the Shenandoah Connect mobile app, visit su.edu/connectapp, or your device’s app store, to download the new app. Stay in touch with alumni, receive notifications about what is happening on campus, and so much more!
