Luke Nussman ’19 serves as a commercial portfolio manager at United Bank in Martinsburg, West Virginia, where he manages complex commercial banking relationships across the region. Since graduating from Shenandoah, Nussman has built a progressive career with United Bank, holding positions as sales associate, sales associate supervisor, sales and service representative, branch manager, and dual branch manager. In his dual branch leadership roles in Winchester, he oversaw daily operations and managed retail portfolios across two branch locations. Throughout his financial career, Nussman has navigated an ever-changing banking landscape shaped by evolving regulatory requirements, shifting interest rates, market dynamics, and competitive industry trends. Among his most rewarding professional achievements is building a recruitment pipeline that connects recent Shenandoah graduates with career opportunities at United Bank.
Prior to entering commercial banking, Nussman earned his degree from Shenandoah in 2019, choosing SU to pursue his athletic career within a supportive, tight-knit academic and athletic community. As a four-year student-athlete on the Hornets baseball team, his most memorable collegiate experiences were built on the field and in the dugout. Mentored by head coach Kevin Anderson as well as faculty members Brian Wigley, Ed.D. and Fritz Polite, Ph.D., Nussman attributes much of his professional foundation to the university’s emphasis on relationship-building and work ethic, guided by the principle that leadership requires being the hardest worker in the room.
As a member of the Shenandoah University Alumni Association Board of Directors, Nussman is dedicated to giving back his time and support to the institution that shaped his professional path. Encouraged to re-engage with the university community by associate vice president of Alumni Relations & Annual Fund, Greeley Myers, Ed.D. Nussman looks forward to serving the alumni network, attending events, and supporting the Hornet baseball program.
Beyond his professional role, Nussman is deeply rooted in the local Winchester community alongside his family. He and his wife, Kayla Nussman ’19 (formerly Alderman), a four-year starter for Shenandoah field hockey and currently a 6th-grade mathematics teacher at James Wood Middle School, met during their sophomore year at SU and married in May 2021. They reside locally with their daughter, Brooklyn, born in July 2023.
