Shamyra Wilkerson ’19, ’22 serves as an academic advisor in the School of Business at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). In this role, she guides students through every stage of their collegiate journey: mapping semester schedules, connecting them with vital campus resources, and celebrating their milestone walk across the commencement stage. As a proud first-generation graduate, Shamyra is dedicated to making a large university feel welcoming and navigable, empowering students to uncover their strengths and reshape their future trajectories.
Before joining VCU in 2024, Shamyra served as the director of marketing and promotions for Shenandoah University Athletics. There, she partnered with coaches, department leadership, and the development office to drive fan engagement, support alumni fundraising initiatives, and coordinate marquee campus events such as Meet the Coaches, Buzzy’s Book Club, and the annual Hall of Fame inductions.
A two-time Shenandoah graduate, Shamyra earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology in 2019 and completed a Master of Science in organizational leadership in 2022. Coming from rural King William County, attending Shenandoah exposed her to a world of new opportunities and taught her the power of stepping outside her comfort zone. Her collegiate experience was shaped by transformative mentors, particularly her advisor, Dr. Wendy Carlson, whose support inspired her own career path. In recognition of her lasting impact and achievements at SU, Shamyra was honored as a 2026 Shenandoah University Athletics Hall of Fame inductee.
Now serving on the Shenandoah University Alumni Board of Directors, Shamyra is eager to pay forward the mentorship she received by bridging connections between current students and alumni, championing first-generation student initiatives, and expanding engagement across the SU community.
