All students are guaranteed housing for all four years, as long as the student applies for housing prior to the deadline. The deadline for current students is the end of lottery in March. The deadline for new students is June 1st.
Residence Life does allow students to request a roommate. Residence Life will do their best to accommodate roommate requests, as long as both students request each other by the June 1st deadline.
Residence Life also asks students to rank their hall style preferences. We cannot guarantee that all hall style preferences will be met. All requests are granted based on the date the student submits their housing application.
Housing assignment letters for the fall semester are e-mailed around July 13th to the priority email on file. Students who apply for housing after July 13th will receive an email with their housing assignment at the email address used to submit their housing application.

Incoming Freshman, Transfers and Graduate Students, it is time to confirm your housing! We are excited to welcome you to participate in the online housing process. This simplified process responds to students’ needs for both convenience and personal choice.
STEP 1: Log Into myHousing Portal
Shenandoah University requires all Freshman students to live on campus. In order to secure housing for the incoming year, you will need to complete the online application through the myHousing Portal.
Beginning April 2nd, you can access the myHousing Portal at https://su.starrezhousing.com/starrezportal.
When logging into the portal for the first time, select the “New Student Initial Login”. You will need to log in with your personal email (please use what you provided to the Admissions Office) and SU Student ID number. You received your SU student ID number in your admission acceptance letter.
You will then receive an email from Residence Life with the subject line “Student Housing – Update Credentials”. Please click the link provided to set up your password for the myHousing Portal.
Once you have created a password, you will return to the home screen of the myHousing Portal. Select “Housing Application” to begin the process of filling out the Housing Application.
STEP 2: Filling out Housing Application
All students seeking university housing must fill out a housing application. Once you have selected “Housing application” Please fill out all information and remember to save and continue at the end of each page.
STEP 3: Selecting your roommate
After completing your Housing Application, you will be directed to a Roommate Selection page. This will allow you to search for a specific roommate or find one based off your indicated preferences.
Roommates are selected through the “Roommate Group” process. Roommate Group is a fancy way to say Roommate Selection. If you want someone to be your roommate, you need to request that person to your group. By accepting an invitation, you are automatically assigned/given preference to that student. DO NOT accept an invitation if you are not confident in rooming with that student. You have the ability to add multiple people to your group, but preference will be given in the order that those individuals accepted the invitation. Roommate requests must be mutual. Unanswered or declined roommate requests will not result in roommate pairings.
The myHousing Portal has a unique feature that allows you to match with other incoming students. Matches are determined based off your answers to the “Roommate Matching” questions. You can view your suggested roommates by clicking “Suggested Roommates”. Suggested Roommates will populate a list of students who have a high percentage of question matches to you. If you are interested in reaching out to one of the suggestions, you can send them a message by clicking “Send Message”. This communication will appear in the uppermost right corner of your screen. If you are confident in this match, you can request them to be in your group, therefore, making you both preferred roommates.
You are not required to have a roommate entering Shenandoah, but it is encouraged that you explore your options. If a student does not have a confirmed Roommate Group in the portal by July, they will be auto-assigned to a room with a student of similar preferences as indicated through the Portal.
