Melanie Marks Hitchen ’95

Melanie Marks Hitchen ’95 was able to turn her Bachelor of Business Administration degree into becoming president of her own firm, TDC Virginia Benefits and Risk Management, right here in Winchester.

TDC Virginia Benefits and Risk Management is an employee benefits firm that also manages 401(k) investments and life insurance. TDC helps businesses make the right decisions on one of their biggest expenses. The company also helps with decisions on employee benefits and communicating what these decisions mean to employees.

As full-time working student, Hitchen needed a school that was close to home and Shenandoah was her first choice. While at SU, she was very fond of her marketing professor, Dr. Giles Jackson. His entrepreneurial attitude made a lasting impression on her.

Her advice to current students is: “Don’t snub your nose at an insurance career. You really help others and it can be very rewarding and with hard work and the right team it is a profitable business.”
