Cathy Loranger is a seasoned marketing communications and public relations practitioner, strategist and brand storyteller. With a career that spans corporate business, higher education and several advertising/PR agencies, she counsels senior leadership, develops marketing and brand strategies, manages projects and writes/edits copy for a variety of media channels, including print and online publications. She holds a doctorate in organizational leadership from Shenandoah University, a master’s in communications management from Syracuse University and a bachelor’s in English and mass communications from Eastern Nazarene College. She served as president of the College Communicators Association of Virginia and Washington, D.C., from 2008-2010, and earned professional accreditation from the Public Relations Society of America in 1992. Cathy has worked at Shenandoah University since 1999.

Rick Ours is director of Shenandoah University video production, and as such supervises all in-house and out-of-house video projects. Ours is also the Administrator of the Vickers Communication Center. He has over 35 years experience in electronic media/video & TV production, both commercial TV and institutional video, including stints with CBS NCAA Sports and ESPN NCAA basketball crews. Ours has received numerous national awards for his work, including the Telly, Communicator and Videographer awards. A Graduate of West Virginia University, he is a supporter of Mountaineer football, and previously worked for the Mountaineer Sports Network. In his spare time, he is an avid reader of thriller fiction, a nature photographer and singer. Rick enjoys spending time with family, including Wife Mary Beth, daughter Amye and son Matthew and his three grandchildren, Reily, Lilah and Maggie.

Emily Burner serves as spokesperson for Shenandoah University and manages the university’s external communications, disseminating information to journalists and responding to media inquiries and interview requests. She also manages university-wide internal communications via the university’s daily email, SUN-e. She is a regular contributor to Shenandoah magazine and often writes other stories and communication pieces for various offices on campus. Emily holds a bachelor of arts degree from Randolph-Macon College (Major: Political Science/Minors: Speech Communication, Journalism & Spanish); a master of science degree from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University (Major: Broadcast Journalism); and a doctor of professional studies degree from Shenandoah University (Major: Organizational Leadership). Emily has worked for Shenandoah University since 2008, previously serving in the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Office of Alumni Affairs. Prior to joining Shenandoah University, she spent two years as a reporter and producer for TV3 Winchester, the city’s former ABC affiliate. Emily is a Randolph-Macon College Society of Alumni board member, a proud alumna of the Randolph-Macon Women’s Basketball program, and a co-chair of the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival® Publicity & Promotion Committee.

As Senior Graphic Designer at Shenandoah University, Colby Smith specializes in visual problem solving and typography. She conceptualizes and creates designs that convey Shenandoah’s brand strategy throughout print and electronic media. Additionally, she is responsible for helping manage the use of the university’s brand materials (i.e. logos and photos) and is the lead designer for the university’s alumni magazine. In 2009, she received her B.F.A. in Graphic Design from James Madison University. Colby’s interests outside of work include puppies, witty banter and chocolate chip cookies.

Jason López is responsible for representing the Shenandoah University brand strategy in all visual communication mediums including print, web and video. Formulate design concepts for all mediums, including collateral, direct mail, radio, print and outdoor advertising, web, video and social media. He holds a B.A. in Graphic Design and a M.F.A. in Digital Graphic Design from Atlantic University. Jason enjoys spending time drinking Coca Cola and eating chocolate.

Lee A. Graff grew up around the world and from one end of the country to the other. He spent time in Germany, Panama, Virginia, California, New Mexico, Tennessee, and West Virginia. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree at Johnson Bible College (now Johnson University) in Knoxville, Tennessee. Following his undergraduate years, he spent time at multiple television stations in East Tennessee. Working as a commercial producer, video news journalist, freelance producer, teacher and documentary film producer, Lee has experience in several forms of video and media production. Lee brings his experiences from around the world and the various types of production he’s learned to bear in his work as a video producer for Shenandoah University. When not helping to tell the story of the university, Lee spends his time with his wife Danielle (middays on 97.5 FM WLTF), and their three children (Kacey, Karee, and Kaden), but you can also find him writing fiction or pondering the mysteries of the universe just for fun.

With a background in tracking, troubleshooting, and technical support, Cathy Wetzel supports the strategic and tactical functions of the Office of Marketing & Communications. When she’s not researching, following projects on Quickbase or tracking media placements, she can be found at the fitness center, working on do-it-yourself home projects with her husband or planning vacations to spend time with her adult son.
