Lisa Summer, Ph.D., LMHC, MT-BC, FAMI is director of music therapy at Anna Maria College in Massachusetts. She teaches the Continuum Model of GIM (Guided Imagery and Music), a clinical model she developed and utilized in her private practice and psychiatric hospitals with adults with anxiety, mood and substance use disorders. She conducts seminars throughout the world, and offers ongoing trainings in the Continuum Model of GIM in China, South Korea and Europe and has written many articles and book chapters chronicling her theory and clinical practice. She authored “Music: The New Age Elixir,” a critique of New Age music healing practices, edited GIM founder/pioneer Helen Bonny’s collected publications “Music and Consciousness: The Evolution of Guided Imagery and Music” and co-edited with Carolyn Kenny an issue of Voices (online international journal) that commemorated Bonny’s life and work. She received regional Presidential Awards for Outstanding Research Achievements (1991) and Dedication and Service to the Field (1998, 2011) and the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) National Presidential Award of Merit (2017) . Her professional biography is included in the publication: “The Lives of Music Therapists: Profiles in Creativity.”
