Kenny Sharp is a singer-songwriter who effortlessly proves that soul music is alive and well. Currently based in Washington, D.C., Sharp was born in Montgomery, Alabama, to two military commissioned officers that moved around quite often. As he relocated across the world, his exposure to different cultures helped him develop an eclectic taste in music. The passion he showed for music at a young age stemmed naturally from his family. Some of his biggest inspirations at the time were Kid Cudi, Amy Winehouse, Outkast, Gucci Mane and the Beatles. It would not be until he was introduced to artists like Sam Cooke, Otis Redding and Johnny Cash that he would begin singing and make the shift artistically from rap to soul.
As a songwriter, Sharp’s versatility has proven to be one of his biggest assets. His foundation in hip-hop lyricism and storytelling, combined with his diverse cultural background plays a considerable role in his success and enables him to work with artists across many genres. Signed to a publishing deal with Dr. Luke’s Prescription Songs, Sharp has had the opportunity to write for pop artists like Benny Mayne, LunchMoney Lewis, and numerous up and comers in the pop-country world out of Nashville. Sharp’s upcoming releases are easily described as raw and organic with thoughtful storytelling. Labeled as “Brown Liquor Music,” expect to hear pop and soul, with elements of blues, hip-hop and rock. What makes Kenny Sharp unique is an effortless ability to tell a story and deliver vocally. Expect new music from Kenny Sharp this summer along with his first EP this fall.
